On our way to Rotorua, in New Zealand’s North Island, we found this really weird village, where a lot of buildings and a lot of decorations on the houses were made of this really thin metal that people there bent to create funny animal shapes. You can see a sheep here (it was a sportwear shop) but there was also a wolf, a dog and loads of birds.
Birds are so important to Newzealanders, a lot of species are in danger and are very rare, so we went to the Rainbow Springs Kiwi Parklife to see some and we also had the chance to come back at night to spot some Kiwi coming out to eat. Sweet.
What a wonderful city, so young and cool. We stayed there just a couple of days but we were immediately charmed by Auckland‘s atmosphere, little diners, up and down streets and high palaces from which you can see the whole city, the harbour, the sea. We. need. to. go. back. there.
Some of my latest illustrations for Grazia.it New Talents‘ section, written by Mr. Gabriele Verratti.
I love Creatures of the Wind clothes, their prints are to die for and there’s a freshness in the volumes and in the choices of this lookbook styling that seems really brilliant to me. I chose to insert some collage not to spoil the wonderful prints and to use some of them for the frame and some of the decoration on the back. It was quite a long process but I think at the end it was really worth it!
I’m so happy Marina & The Diamonds second album Electra Heart is finally out, I really needed something like that right now, something that you dance and sing to without feeling guilty. I’m not into her new blond-wig-fifty houswife look, not into her trying to be someone she’s probably not, or building a fictional persona that sings at her place, which is what apparently she’s trying to do, but the thing is I just don’t care about the show, as I don’t care about Lana del Rey‘s lips because I just think her songs and voice are good.
Besides being an awesome writer (I loved her novel Sono io che me ne vado published by Mondadori, and can’t wait for her second one), and an awesome person, my friend Violetta is also one of the best “conference speakers” I have ever known. Her memory of names and fun facts is incredible and she’s got a soft spot for surprises and coup de théâtres. Her conference on Internet “memes” during Milan’s Fuorisalone was both superinteresting and superfunny (I’ll link the video as soon as it’s out) and I think everyone who is used to be on the web should watch it.
Violetta hates being photographed, so I consider myself pretty lucky to have these pics of her and hopefully I’ll trick her into letting me shoot her again!
Catching up with our analogic New Zealand‘s pics. The beauty of these places hurts a bit everytime I take a look at our pictures or think about it. What a marvellous magic country.
